The Roseland Theater is probably one of the better venues in the Portland Area. Once you get through security you take a trip up stairs and you are greeted to a wide open venue that has a bar on the left side and a balcony where you can have a seat and watch the show from afar. The main pit area was big enough for people get their mosh on.

The first band up for the night was Tallah, a nu-metal infused band. The best way to describe them would be a drug induced acid trip. The really cool addition to their line-up is that they had a DJ spinning records just like the old days think back early days of nu-metal Deftones, Limp Bizkit. They really set the tone for what the night would be.

Varials are a hardcore band based out of Philadelphia. They sure do know how to get a crowd moving. This was the part in the show where everyone was fully awake and moving to the music. They finished out the show with one of their classic songs “Empire of Dirt”. Definitely would recommend Varials to anyone that likes hardcore and just wants mosh.

The band that stole the show for me was Miss May I. It has been a whole two years since they have been on tour. For a live band they really bring the energy and put all their effort into the music. I was happy to hear some older tracks like “Masses of a Dying Breed” and Relentless Chaos”. It has been about 10 plus years since I have seen them live and I have to say they still know how to stay metal. We also got a little glimpse into the future with a new track “Unconquered”.

Saving the best for last All That Remains ripped through their third album The Fall Of Ideals. Probably one of the best metalcore albums of the millennium decade. Their sound is unchanged whether its the long guitar solos, the guttural screams, or even the chugging of the drums. The first time I ever heard an All That Remains song was when I was a teenager playing rock band and the song was “This Calling”. That would lead me down the road to heavier music as I got older.

So this tour has something to offer to everyone, it’s a great mix of metal and hardcore. Remember to always show up early for the openers, you never know what you may find. In my experience going to shows the openers go on to headlining tours and become your new favorite band.
