Slipknot made their return to the PNW on Sunday night in force, celebrating their 25th anniversary of their first-debut album. Bringing back the original red jumpsuits for a throwback set of 1999-era material. Slipknot defined a whole generation of what they call “Maggots.” They defiantly shook up the metal scene. They took it by storm. Today, Slipknot is one of the biggest bands in metal. They have influenced the younger generation to explore heavier musical influences.

Vended is a nu metal band from Des Moines, Iowa founded in 2018. The band features Griffin Taylor, son of Corey Taylor, and drummer Simon Crahan, son of Shawn “Clown” Crahan. They are self-taught musicians and have worked hard to gain a reputation without their fathers’ successes. My first time seeing Vended was at Blue Ridge Rock Fest last year. As an opener they definitely know how to rile the crowd and get everyone’s blood boiling.

They powered through a six song setlist. It included “Nihilism,” “Ded to Me”, “Am I the Only One”, “The Far Side”, “Serenity”, and “Asylum”.

Knocked Loose have had a busy year so far. They just released “You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To”. They also just came off a big headline tour with Show Me The Body, Loathe, & Speed, so it’s pretty fitting to find them opening for Slipknot on this tour. Knocked Loose is a band that has grown overnight; they have traded smaller, more intimate shows for opening arenas, introducing audiences to a different kind of sound. They are still sticking to their signature sound and have only gotten tighter as a band. They still bring aggressive hardcore to the masses.

Their set was of new and older songs including “Blinding Faith,” “Mistakes Like Fractures”, “Deadringer”

, “Billy No Mates”, “Suffocate”, “Counting Worms”, & “Deep in the Willow”.

Catch Knocked Loose on another tour this fall with The Garden, Drain, & Militarie Gun.

Slipknot opened up the show with “(sic)”, “Eyeless”, & “Wait and Bleed”. Their set was a 14-song career spanning performance. Slipknot even brought out some deep cuts like “Me Inside”, which hasn’t been played live since 2015. They also played “Only One,” which was played for the first time in 2012. They had a three track encore that included “Spit It Out”, “Surfacing”, & crowd favorite, “Scissors”.

There are six more dates left on this tour, one of which is a homecoming show in Iowa on September 21st. This show includes a stacked lineup of bands, including Til Lindemann, Knocked Loose, Hatebreed, Poison the Well, Gwar, and Vended. Other bands are Dying Wish, Zulu, Twin Temple, Holy Wars, Swollen Teeth, Spine, and Dose.

They will also have a few festival appearances at Louder Than Life on September 26th, Aftershock Festival on October 11th, and Knotfest Brazil on October 19th.
