Location: Fillmore Philadelphia – Philadelphia, PA

Date: July 9th, 2026

The experimental-rock artist Poppy returned to the city of brotherly love last Thursday. Named for one of the tracks on her latest album Empty Hands, the Constantly Nowhere tour kicked off this past week. With support from Thousand Below and LANDMVRKS, Poppy brought her signature genre-defying presence to the Fillmore Philadelphia on the second night of this monumental tour.

Thousand Below

Post-Hardcore group Thousand Below opened the night strong with tracks “Keresene” and “SHAKE”. The crowd was immediately ready for a night of letting loose because a circle pit opened up by the third song, “Venenosa”. It was immediately apparent how strong their rhythm section was, as drummer Max Santoro and bassist Josh Billimoria were locked in with each other all night. Lead vocalist James Deberg blended visceral vocals with striking screams that reverberated throughout the venue. Josh Thomas’ guitars pulled the band’s entire sound together, creating a beautifully orchestrated experience that was equal parts heavy and melodic.

Hundreds of hands waved in the air during Thousand Below’s fan-favorite song “Save Me”. At one point, a child crowdsurfed among the sea of metalheads. Community like this is why live music is so crucial. It proves that metal has no age limit and welcomes all to come as they are. Thousand Below ended their set with “No Place Like You” and “Sabotage”.

LANDMVRKS

The next band to take the stage was the French metalcore band LANDMVRKS. Blending nu metal, hiphop, and rock, LANDMVRKS delivered a high-energy performance that never wavered. They opened with “Creature”, then flowed right into “Death” and “A Line in the Dust”.

Hailing from Southern France, the five-piece band has made a name for themselves internationally. Their energy is contagious. Lead guitarist Nicolas Exposito, bassist Rudy Purkart, and rhythm guitarist Paul Cordebard are non-stop powerhouses. Spinning, jumping, and smiling wide for the crowd, they brought the level of showmanship needed for LANDMVRKS’s music. The band is lead by vocalist Florent Salfati, who is a constant reminder of what the metal genre has to offer. He’s vibrant, charismatic, and beams with love for his craft. Kévin D’Agostino’s drums brutally resonated within our chests, setting a perfect rhythm for the head bangs and fist pumps. The band closed out their set with “Blood Red” and “Self Made Black Hole”.

Poppy

Poppy graced the stage just after 9:00pm. As the lights flickered off and the rumble of excited cries filled the air, a tape recording of “Constantly Nowhere” began playing over the speakers. Once the crowd’s excitement reached its climax, Poppy appeared on top of one of the two LED platforms on either side of the stage. Her drummer Ralph Alexander sat at his double bass kit on the other platform. The platforms created a fun and bright tiered display that lit up the entire venue. She wasted no time opening the set with “have you had enough?” and “the cost of giving up”, both from her 2024 album Negative Spaces.

Poppy has been making her mark on the internet for the last decade. Her earliest releases came in the form of performance art on Youtube, often satirizing internet culture and societal expectations. Versatility is one of her biggest assets, as her style has melded from hyperpop, to ambient, to metal through the course of her career. She most recently gained mainstream success pivoting from pop to metal, especially with songs such as “I Disagree” (2020), “X” (2019) and her collaboration with Evanescence’s Amy Lee and Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante on “End of You” (2025). There is an effortlessness to Poppy’s presence and the way she blends genres. She is proof that career reinventions can be both authentic and creatively fulfilling.

Poppy’s four-piece band joined her on stage, all donning identical masks that felt more akin to Slipknot or Sleep Token. Guitarists Alexa Lynn and Johnuel Hasney and bassist Jake Massianari were everywhere all at once, moving all throughout the stage in complete symmetry. “Bruised Sky”, “Eat the Hate” and “Guardian” were brand new additions to the setlist for this tour, all originating from Empty Hands (2026).

During the seventh song of the set, “vital”, Poppy brought out an acoustic guitar to accompany her vocals. Friends, partners, and family all embraced each other as they sang and raised their arms. These tender moments amongst one another would inevitably turn into head-banging and moshing. To the crowd’s surprise she also performed “V.A.N.” (2024) which was a collaboration between her and Bad Omens.

The last three songs of Poppy’s set were equally poignant and invigorating. Another track from Empty Hands called “If We’re Following the Light” was the last song before the encore, and was a personal favorite of mine from the night. Once she left the stage, Poppy’s name echoed through the audience as thousands of people called for her return. With a big smile and a sway of her iconic black hair, she began playing “halo”, one of the only ballads on the setlist. As phone lights shone across the balcony and GA floor, you could feel the power that live music holds.

Poppy is boldly ethereal and effortlessly unrelenting. She is unapologetic in her lyrics, screams and stage presence. She didn’t say much throughout the set, but just before the last song, “new way out”, she told the crowd “I feel like we’re swimming together”. Unity was a common theme that night, and Poppy has fostered a diverse community of fans for a decade. We were indeed swimming together through haunting melodies and colorful catharsis.
