LIVE REVIEW: Korn/Evanescence at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Tinley Park, IL on August 20, 2022

Korn and Evanescence joined forces for a 2022 Summer Tour that hit the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Tinley Park, IL full force on August 20, 2022. As if the night wasn’t going to be chaotic already, severe storms in the area caused a one-hour delay in getting the gates opened for the show. As police and staff drove around the parking lot announcing that the gates were opened, there was a mass exodus from parking lot to the gate. In order to keep things as close to “on time” as possible, opener Jeris Johnson performed as the crowed was entering the amphitheater, followed very quickly by Helmet. Both acts playing abbreviated sets, much to the disappointment of many fans that were there to see both bands.

With things back on track, it was time for Evanescence to take the stage. As the band took the stage playing the opening of “Broken Pieces Shine”, Amy Lee appeared behind the drum riser and was silhouetted against the backdrop. After 20 years of touring, neither her voice or energy have wavered.

Backed by Troy McLawhorn & Tim McCord on guitar, Will Hunt on drums, and Emma Anzai (Sick Puppies) on bass, Evanescence treated the audience to a fantastic mix of new and old hits. The loudest reactions of course, to hits like “Going Under”, “Call Me When You’re Sober”, “Bring Me To Life”, and “My Immortal”. We were treated to a great set and this was only the beginning!

Final band of the night was Korn, and it was well worth the wait! A large cage-like screen was lowered that took up the entire front of the stage. Various special effects were shown across it while the band played “Rotting In Vain” & “A.D.I.D.A.S” behind it. As the band broke into “Here To Stay”, the effects wall was raised to completely reveal the band to the crowd. It would be lowed again at various times throughout the set to enhance other songs.

The highlight of the night came with final song of the night, when Amy Lee joined Jonathan Davis on vocals for “Freak On A Leash”. What an amazing performance that was! A great night indeed for all that attended. The energy level was still at its peak as the audience filed out of the amphitheater for the drive home.
