The Sound of Animals Fighting played the last show of their tour in Orlando on Friday at the House of Blues to an enthusiastic crowd that readily followed the sometimes ethereal, sometimes emotional, sometimes hardcore, and sometimes weird (in the best way) performance throughout the whole night.
It truly was an immersive performance that started off with Soft Blue Shimmer, a dream pop/shoegaze band from California before The Sound of Animals Fighting took the stage. Neither band really seems to fit into one genre, and that works to their advantage. The whole show was a perfect illustration of the allure of seeing music performed live. From watching Soft Blue Shimmer’s passion for their music unfold more deeply with every song to seeing a book being read or a lightbulb and glowstick catapulting through the air from an ever-changing cast of TSOAF’s “animals”, it was an experience that you could never get no matter what form of media you might listen to an album or song.
It may not have seemed like a band pairing that would create a fully cohesive show, but the sounds from Soft Blue Shimmer blurred perfectly into the sounds of TSOAF, and the two sets back to back created an unforgettable musical story.
